  PROFESSIONAL HOME NURSING'S HISTORY

In 1995 two registered nurses saw a need for homecare services in Aroostook County.  They had a vision of providing the high standard of care that they would want for their own families, thus Professional Home Nursing (PHN) was born.  The owners, Darlene Foster and Katherine Anderson bring a combined 40 years of nursing experience to the agency.

Darlene is a current member of the Caribou Chamber of Commerce.  She began her career working with psychiatric patients before moving on to a local hospital where she worked as a Registered Nurse on the Medical/Surgical and Intensive Care Units and eventually became a nursing supervisor.  During her hospital employment, she also taught as a clinical nursing instructor at a local community college.  Looking for a change, Darlene accepted a position as a Nurse Case Manager for a local homecare agency.  It was at this time that she met Katherine Anderson.

Katherine obtained her BSN prior to becoming a Charge Nurse at a local hospital.  After working for several years in the hospital setting, she made the move to Staff Nurse and Team Leader with a local homecare agency.  Katherine obtained her Masters of Science Degree in Healthcare Administration from Husson College.  She is a current member of the Caribou Rotary.  She was also voted Young Careerist by the Caribou Business and Professional Women.

Finding they had a mutual calling in life, Katherine and Darlene formed a partnership and founded Professional Home Nursing.

Professional Home Nursing has developed a reputation for providing the highest quality of patient care and in 1997 received the Business of the Year Award by the Caribou Chamber of Commerce.

PHN has continued to grow and prosper even after the devastating blows they received during the Balanced Budget Act of 1997, which caused many homecare agencies to close their doors.  Darlene and Katherine's professional nursing experience has enhanced their leadership of the skilled home care agency and has guided their skilled staff, to provide the care that is necessary for patient's to achieve the greatest possible level of health and comfort at home.
